Step Back in Time – The Swinging Sixties Theme 21st Birthday Party

For this fantastic 21st party our client wanted to feel as if she had stepped back in time with a Swinging Sixties Theme.

The brief was to create an intimate swinging sixties theme Living Room feel that would make the guests say “WOW” as they arrived!

The client also wanted a venue that would really make an impression on their guests, somewhere that felt a bit special, whilst maintaining the flexibility that a Marquee allows in terms of theming. We used one of our exclusive use venues in Gloucestershire, which not only has an incredibly grand facade but also has a grand driveway and a beautiful croquet lawn, perfect for building Marquees. We lit the front of the building so that it could be seen from the driveway as guests arrived, and parked in the courtyard. This gave them the full experience of arriving at a grand country house.

The inside of the Marquee was where the sixties theme really took effect. We used a range of authentic swinging sixties furniture, mixed with a few clever styling tricks and help from our talented friends at Crescent Moon. This included using a number of mirrors around the Marquee, not only for the girls to check their hair and makeup but also to add to the patterns and dramatic effects. The carpet was burnt orange, which offset the bold colours and patterns around the Marquee. Bespoke tablecloths in original 60s patterns were printed for the event, along with custom-made cushions. On the tables, small lamps were used as centre pieces as well as the client’s own ornaments to create an eclectic mix.  A hanging chandelier of pom pom and fairy lights came down from the roof to complete the effect.

A reception drink of Porn Star Martinis were served – the Birthday girls favourite, along with plenty of Veuve to toast the guests followed by canapés and a three-course meal from Fosters Event Catering.  A combination of plated dishes and sharing sides helped to create a relaxed feel at the party, it was important to the client that this did not feel like a wedding.  The dessert of Chocolate Brownies and Cheese Boards was served Buffet style to allow the guests to get up and hit the bar and dance floor as soon as possible.  It also meant they could pick later on in the evening when they got hungry.

After Dinner, guests danced the night away on the bespoke patterned Dancefloor until 5 AM!  Guests who couldn’t take the pace were able to slip off to one of the cosy yurts set up with blankets and mattresses. Despite it being -5C outside, the extra heating in the yurts meant they were warm right through until dawn.
